We may enroll children with disabilities if it is determined that the program is appropriate for the child, the staff is able to meet the individual needs of the child, and the child is developed to the extent that he/she is not a hazard to him/herself and does not endanger the well-being of the staff and other children enrolled in the program. Mira Lira staff will do their best to provide appropriate support that is within our means, striving for each child to be successful in the preschool environment.
We appreciate a commitment as do the kids. They like being in a stable environment and they get attached to their friends. That being said, life happens and all we request is a two-week paid notice.
Yes, we have a restroom in our home shop with a sink and toilet.
Yes, at the moment we have hens, rooster, turtle and a herding dog. We find animals all the time while exploring such as lizards, frogs, cicadas, grasshoppers, birds, butterflies and so much more. Please keep this in mind if your child is allergic or fears animals.
The outdoor school model's primary tenant is increasing a child's risk-taking abilities. Most children do not generally take risks beyond their comfort, and clearly most children have a desire to avoid pain and fear. With a teacher's support, they can push the boundaries of their comfort levels and build resilience, as well as new physical and emotional skills. To safely achieve these things, Mira Lira has a number of safety measures put into place to support young adventurers, which include: consistently communicated safety rules, supervised potty time, physical boundaries of the learning space, low child to adult ratio.
*Property is currently not fully fenced but in the process of getting built and placed.
*** If there is ever a concern about safety, we encourage you to reach out to a teacher to discuss. Our students safety is our priority.
Yes, we have a large cart port, treehouse and so much shade from our beautiful trees. If a severe thunderstorm occurred during class time, we have a large shop and/or my home as a emergency alternative.
High winds causing debris to fall from the trees. In the event that our teachers are all sick and we are unable to bring in a substitute. We hope this NEVER happens, but of course, it is a possibility that could occur. We have a waitlist of substitutes to call in if necessary. We follow our local school district and county closures and warnings.
Yes, I have a 3 and 6 year old daughter. They are my inspiration for this program :)
We are very sensitive to each family's needs around drop-off time. Our goal is that pick-up and drop-off time be a positive experience for everyone. Generally, children experiencing separation anxiety will cry at drop-off and stop crying when the parent has left. The anticipation of the leaving may be a trigger for big feelings (for both parents and children), but with emotional support, children are presented with the opportunity to learn how to regulate after a caregiver has left. We are very committed to working with every family to ensure everyone feels comfortable at drop off. We are open to a variety of solutions to help soothe a child's (and parent's) nervous systems during this tricky phase! Please reach out to the teacher if you are feeling anxious about this transition.
